About Us

Timber Love is a group of dedicated timber professionals specialising in timber maintenance and restoration of exterior cladding, decks and fences.

After spending 25 years building with all timbers, the company’s founder, Brad Richards who is a Master Builder by trade, saw the use of timbers especially Cedar was becoming more prevalent due to its huge amount of benefits such as its natural resistance to water, insect infections and decay as well as its durability, a degree of thermal insulation and especially post-earthquake in Christchurch, its volume to weight ratio, which was ideal for lightweight construction.

Timber Maintenance & Restoration

Even timber needs love
We know that your home’s beautiful timber cladding is your pride and joy. Not only that, but timber, especially Cedar gives you lots of benefits such as its resistance to water, insect infections, and decay – it is also durable, warm, and lightweight.
But all great relationships are a two-way street – you need to show your timber some love in return: time to call the relationship experts. Timber homes only benefit from its durability when they are maintained correctly.

Has Your Timber Been Neglected for Years?

Treat It to a Restorative Spa!
To revive your timber cladding back to its original glory, Timber Love can take the daunting task of restoration off your hands, with a professional service to make your cladding look healthy and new again.
If your timber is starting to look aged, grey, warped and starting to ‘cup’, then talk to our friendly team of timber professionals who will find the right way to restore your cladding. Our process consists of a careful yet thorough wash with a cleanser to remove dirt, dust, and other contaminants.
Our experts will then carefully apply an oil coat on your cladding, making it look new and providing ongoing protection.

Building New with Cedar? Even New Cedar Needs Care and Protection

It is recommended that you oil your new cedar as it is installed for the most protection, then again 1 year later to ensure ongoing protection from UV rays and harsh weather.

Ongoing Maintenance

The Ongoing Maintenance Program for a Long and Happy Relationship

Regular timber maintenance significantly increases its life span. Wood oil maintains the visual appeal of your timber while protecting its durability. After initial consultation and inspection of your property, we will custom design a maintenance program for your property and advise of any repairs and maintenance.

Quick Guide to Your Maintenance Timeline

Cladding

We recommend re-coating every 2 years for coloured oils and 3-5 years for a clear coat. This can vary depending on its exposure to the elements.

Decks

Due to these being high traffic areas, the wear and tear happens faster, so we recommend maintenance every 3-4 years

Fences

Timber fence maintenance is similar to that of cladding, depending on the location and exposure to direct sunlight or rain – so you’re looking at a date every 2-4 years as required
It all depends on the sun and weather aspect of your timber and use of the area. The more you re-coat the longer it will last and the better it will look.

Stains – Timber stain provides a film barrier to the surface of the timber, making the timber look new and healthy again. Staining requires 2 x coats.

Oil – Wood oils deeply penetrate the timber and cedar to replace any natural oils lost, giving it longer, lasting nourishment and protection. Oils can be tinted to match existing timber colour and allows the natural grain of the wood to be seen through, only requiring one coat at a time.
